Fredericton

A Legacy of Illumination

Fredericton is home to the oldest university in North America (UNB), and a love of learning has defined the city for generations. Today, Fredericton is a Canadian start-up capital. The Intelligence Community Forum lists it as one of the world’s seven smartest cities, and FDI Magazine named it a top Micro City in North America. (sourceicons.external-link-icon)

The Largest Maritime Province

To and from Fredericton

Fredericton gives your delegates access to New Brunswick’s three distinct coastlines spanning over 2,200 km. Start down south by the Bay of Fundy where high tides make it among the most accessible areas on Earth to see marine life up close. Keep going to see the other two Maritime provinces: Nova Scotia to the south and Prince Edward Island to the east.

In Fredericton

The Wolastoq River’s position gives Fredericton over 120 km of waterside trails to walk. The area’s special relationship with water is integral to the Wəlastəkwiyik (Maliseet) and Mi’kmaq First Nations who are stewards of this land. The water has also made Fredericton Atlantic Canada’s craft beer hub. And it’s the only provincial capital city in Canada where English and French are both designated official languages.

Sectors

While the natural resources industry has historically  fuelled New Brunswick’s economy, Fredericton’s digital industry sector stands apart in the province and the country. The city has more engineers per capita than any other city in Canada, and this has led to booms in cybersecurity, cleantech, biotech and agritech. Fredericton is also home to Canada’s second-largest military base.
