Collision Conference Moves to Canada
Collision – North America's fastest-growing technology conference – was hosted in Toronto May 20 - 23, 2019 at the Enercare Centre at Exhibition Place. This was the first of a three-year commitment to host the event in Toronto, and the first time that the conference was held outside of the U.S. Dubbed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as the “TIFF for Tech,” Collision Conference selected Canada, and Toronto in particular, thanks to the country’s welcoming immigration policies and depth of industry expertise found in the city.
"Toronto is not an up and coming city, it has arrived,” said Paddy Cosgrave, founder and CEO of Collision. “A number of people around the world haven't realised it yet. Collision is fortunate to be here at a time when Toronto is already booming."
The City of Toronto partnered with Tourism Toronto and Exhibition Place to bring this sought-after conference to Toronto. The event, which brought together the people and organizations who are redefining the global technology industry welcomed over 27,000 attendees, including 3,750 CEOs and 750 journalists, from 120 countries, along with 70+ international delegations looking at Toronto for expansion or investment. The conference is part of a series of technology conferences that include Web Summit in Europe and RISE in Hong Kong.
"Toronto's technology and innovation sector is growing at a phenomenal rate. Collision will have a huge economic impact on our city and will help us build on that success," enthused Toronto Mayor, John Tory.
The event, which is estimated to bring $147 million in direct spending to the Toronto region, included 14 standalone conferences that focused on industry tracks including marketing, design, coding, robotics, SaaS, big data, the future of healthcare and more, curated roundtables and workshops, and networking events.
By hosting the Collision Conference Toronto aims to:
- Attract foreign direct investment to Canada in the form of company expansions and relocations
- Promote international trade and partnerships with Canadian companies
- Entice venture capitalist investment in Canadian companies
- Promote the Toronto and Canadian innovation ecosystems.
There was a distinct buzz in the air last week and it had as much to do with Collision as the Toronto Raptors winning the NBA semi-finals. Bringing Collision to Toronto builds on the momentum of the Toronto region's technology industry, ranked as the largest tech sector in Canada and the fourth largest in North America.
