Rally Up
Feel the freedom of the open road calling; wind in your hair, gps at the ready, and a list of top sights to explore along the way. Topping many a scenic drive of a lifetime list for their stunning natural beauty, roadside attractions and photo opportunities, the highways and byways that web Canada offer the perfect opportunity for incentive groups to connect with Canadians and their communities in an up-close-and-personal way. Here are some of our favourite routes:
Victoria to Tofino
Leave Victoria’s dynamic urban vibe behind for a one-of-a-kind east-to-west island drive. Hugging the coast for part of the journey, an easterly turn carries you through fragrant, untouched rainforest, ending on the western edge of Canada, where sprawling beaches, luxurious resorts and one of Canada’s most eclectic food scenes awaits.
Vancouver to Whistler
From sparkling ocean right on up to craggy peaks, this is one dazzling journey. Begin at sea level in Vancouver, travelling along dramatic Howe Sound, weaving through old-growth rainforest until reaching Whistler, at some 670 meters, 2,220 feet in elevation. Named the Sea to Sky Highway, BC’s Highway 99 provides plenty of rest stops and photo ops including Britannia Mines where ralliers can stop to pan for gold, Shannon Falls, the perfect stop to stretch your legs, or a ride on the Sea to Sky Gondola in the mountain town of Squamish.
Vancouver to Kelowna
Travel in the footsteps of prospectors and dreamers following the interior mountain highways from Vancouver to wine country, passing through gold rush territory, lush wilderness, high mountain passes and Canada’s only desert region. Along the way, make stops in Manning Park or farming communities along the Similkameen Valley, at the Desert Cultural Centre in Osoyoos, or the wineries, cideries, orchards and craft breweries throughout the Okanagan Valley. Scenic for sure, this route should be broken up over two days. For an equally scenic but condense route, choose to rally from Vancouver to Kelowna or Sparkling Hill Resort via the Coquihalla Highway.
Banff | Lake Louise to Jasper
Rated as one of the top drives in the world by Condé Nast Traveller, the Icefield Parkway is a 232 km stretch of double-lane highway winding along the Continental Divide through soaring rocky mountain peaks, icefields and vast sweeping valleys. Connecting the resort communities for Banff and Lake Louise to Jasper National Park the photo ops along the Icefields Parkway are beyond breathtaking: Peyto Lake, NumTiJa Lodge, and the magnificent Icefield Centre. Stop as often as you like, but make sure to include time to tour the Icefield Centre, either by oversized snocoach or on a guided ice walk to learn all about the land of snow and ice.
Québec City to Charlevoix
Follow the majestic St. Lawrence River from Québec City to Charlevoix, past roadside waterfalls, picturesque villages of Les Éboulements, Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive and Saint-Irénée with a side trip around Isle-aux-Coudres. Tiny, picturesque hamlets house galleries exhibiting locally inspired works of art. A region rich in agriculture, this route offers magnificent views, flavourful farm-gate stands, and several locations to stop for photo ops along the way.
